I guess you are downloading 1.0c patch from Voobly. Then make sure you are downloading Age of Empires II patch, not Age of Empires one. I had same experience when I downloaded Age of Empires I patch and tried to run it in hurry. When I realized my mistake, I laughed maniacally on myself. Download Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors 1.0c update. Patch 1.0c is a patch in Age of Empires II: The Conquerors. It fixed various bugs and security issues (mostly related to the proliferation of trainers in 1.0b and a ’map hack’). It was released on August 15, 2001 for the English version; August 22, 2001 for European localizations, and August 26, 2001 for the Japanese version.1. This installation put the Conquerors app. (didn’t seem to be an.exe file?) in a separate folder and called it something like Age12X, so I installed the 1.0c patch from HeavenGames to that directory (the readme file said it was something different - ver 1.0b released June 2001), as had been remarked on HeavenGames comments for this download. Download Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings - 2.0B Patch Unofficial. Update 2.0b patch is an unofficial patch developed to combat.
